The Weekly Links: Vol. 1
Welcome to Volume 1 of The Weekly Links, a round-up of what I’m reading, what I’m clicking on, and what I’m trying out for my golf game. I’d love to hear from you in the comments about what you’ve been paying attention to golf-wise this week.
I got out for my first round of golf for the season this week. I wish it had been earlier but between kids’ sports schedules, school vacation, and more rain than I could have imagined, it was tough to get a round in.
I went to the driving range on Monday and it felt great to warm up. I worked on trying the different clubs in my bag – starting with my 8-iron and working my way down, and then back up. I hit my 8-iron, 7-iron, 6-iron, 5-wood, 4-hybrid, and driver. And then went back up to 8. I’d like to get in the habit of working on specific techniques, and found a great roundup of driving range drills for beginners from The Left Rough:
I’ve been following women’s collegiate golf, and this week’s news about an unplayable pin placement in the third round of the NCAA’s Division III Women’s Golf Championship at Mission Hill in Florida was definitely interesting to follow. Many holes feel unplayable to me now, but to see this story (and the videos, Twitter posts, and memes) was definitely an interesting follow!
I’ve been looking for a few new additions to my golf wardrobe as it’s getting hot, and I keep pulling out the same golf dress – I love something that has a little room and lets the air circulate. Carl’s Golfland always seems to have some great deals in limited sizes, and I’m loving this Adidas sleeveless dress, Nike dri-fit dress, and Puma dress – these links aren’t sponsored, I just love the prices & quick turnaround at Carl’s. The Puma dress is on its way to me now! I also ordered and love these high-waisted 4″ inseam biker shorts that I use instead of the shorts that come with most golf dresses – they are super comfortable, and keep me cool.
I haven’t worn my Apple Watch in a long time – it’s been collecting dust on my desk. I’d like to try out some of the golf apps specifically for Apple Watch I’ve heard about that can help you track your score and figure out yardages on the course. I’ll report back with what works best, but I’m looking at using Hole19 because it sounds simple enough for beginners to use.
I bought this watchband this week too – I like the stretchy material, and that it doesn’t necessarily read ‘athletic gear’ – I’m not great about switching watchbands. I thought it might be too heavy/thick to wear but it’s turning out to be really comfortable, and I think I’ll be more inclined to keep my watch on more.
What apps have you used? Do I really need a golf watch? (Probably not happening anytime soon . . . ) I also liked this roundup of different Apple Watch golf apps from Wareable.
Have you been out to play yet this season? Are you still learning? Let me know what you’ve been following and share links below – happy golfing, and see you next week.
