Short Par 4 Women’s Golf Attire Subscription Review: My Unbiased Opinion as a Beginner Golfer

Subscription boxes only seem to increase in popularity – in my own experience, I’ve tried BirchBox, Trunk Club, Rent the Runway, and even meal subscription kits like Hello Fresh, among many others. Once I started googling info for beginner women golfers as I was picking up the sport, it wasn’t too long before I saw ads about Short Par 4, a golf apparel and gear subscription box.

Short Par 4 offers monthly subscription boxes and I had to try it – is it worth it? I’ve got a full review for you below.

Short Par 4: How Does the Subscription Work?

Short Par 4 advertises itself as curated subscription box with Short Par 4 Style Caddies who tailor golf gear and apparel to customers based on their answers to a short questionnaire. The site advertises a 3 step process:

1. Select Your Membership
2. Take a Style Quiz
3. Style Delivered – receive your curated box at your doorstep!

The Magnolia membership – the only box tailored for women – costs $99/month, and is described as providing way more value than that from top golf brands like Greg Norman, Puma, Under Armour and more.

How Does Short Par 4 Know What to Send Me?

Short Par 4 offers subscriptions for men and women. For women, there’s one choice – the Magnolia membership. Customers fill out a short questionnaire outlining their preferences for style, sizing and additional information on golf experience.

When I filled out the questionnaire for the first time, I was a little confused on how to answer, as I was a beginner golfer with little experience. I chose the “traditional” style, entered my sizes, and guessed at the “additional information” questions that I didn’t have a strong preference for – things like putter preference, wedge preference and ball preference are all works in progress!

I’ve outlined the questions Short Par 4 asks below – you’ll need to walk through each set of questions to customize your box.

My Experience: From Sign-Up to Opening Up My First Box

I found the sign up experience really easy. I was excited to fill out the survey, and I used a coupon code from a friend to take $25 off my first box (I’ve got a coupon code with the same deal – if you use it, I’ll also receive a discount on my next box too.) I entered payment information, and I was all set. Not long after, I received an email that my Short Par 4 order was confirmed, and that I’d be notified when the box shipped.

A little less than two weeks later, I got a notification email that my box had shipped. Within a few days, it was at my door. I love getting surprise mail! While I knew the box was coming, I didn’t know what was in it. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was more than I would have expected!

What I Liked: New Products, Balls & Tees

I really liked being exposed to brands I hadn’t heard of before. I received a short sleeve golf polo, matching skort, SPF-protective base layer, trucker-style hat, pair of socks, sleeve of golf balls, and set of golf tees. I’ll be honest – I didn’t know the brands that were in this first box, and I’d been hoping to see something from Under Armour or Puma – two brands I was excited to see on the Short Par 4 website.

I did like that I received balls and tees with each order, along with some fun socks – one month was stars and stripes, one month had a bright tropical print, and all the socks that came were nice to have to add to my golf collection.

I also really liked that I was building up a golf wardrobe over time- the options for golf tops and bottoms at local in-person shopping options – golf course pro shops and big box athletic stores – were relatively limited. With this subscription box, I was able to discover different brands, different styles, and even products I wouldn’t have considered. In one box I received a lightweight white spring rain jacket – not something I ever would have thought to buy, but an item that has been incredibly useful since I received it.

What I Didn’t Like: Tough Returns, Hard to Cancel

It was hard to pick the correct size. I had chosen the ‘traditional’ style which fit a bit larger than I expected. When I went to return some of the items, it was difficult at first to find out how to make that return. Short Par 4 asks subscribers to complete a “Mulligan” form which is submitted for authorization – once the company reviews and approves the form, they’ll send you a prepaid shipping label. I found the process kind of clunky – I had to describe the items I wanted to return, and I couldn’t just select which items I was returning through an online form. However – I was approved, I shipped back my items, and I received credit to apply to other items in the Short Par 4 Vault – an online store with a selection of items similar to what I received in my box.

When I chose to cancel my subscription, again, I found the process a little hard to navigate. However, I think this can be true for most types of subscription boxes. The reason I cancelled was because it was winter – and where I live, golf is not a year-round sport. The cancellation requirements at Short Par 4 require some review – there’s a certain window that you have to cancel by to avoid charges for the next month, and you can’t just send an email. I wound up texting the provided number, and was eventually contacted by a customer service rep who offered me a discount to stick with the subscription. I declined, and it was easy from that point on – my subscription was immediately cancelled and I had no issues.

Would I Subscribe Again?

Where Else Can You Find a Good Deal on Golf Attire and Gear?

When I started golfing, I was tipped off to golf discount websites like The Golf Warehouse, 2nd Swing Golf and Rock Bottom Golf. I found great options on all 3, and the women’s apparel was usually much less expensive than what I found on major retailer websites. I also discovered Carl’s Golfland on my own, and had a great experience. I ordered a number of items from Adidas, Puma and Under Armour at a significant discount, and was happy to see that they were delivered with some tees and ball markers as a gift for ordering with them! I like searching the discount golf websites, but a subscription box makes it easy for you to receive a curated selection of items all at once.
